Our village is located on the northwest side of Dawu Mountain in Southern Taiwan, a Canaanite land blessed by God with clear waters, green hills and verdant valleys, and a paradise beyond the world. Most of the villagers are Paiwan aborigines and a few are Rukai. The people are hardworking, peaceful and friendly, and work together for the goal of “deep cultivation of the Majia Tribe”.

The village is rich in natural resources and is famous for its red quinoa and indigenous mangoes, as well as pineapples, bananas, papayas, Cajan, Chinese mahogany, and other crops. The township of Majia is the home of Red Quinoa and has the highest production volume in the country. Red Quinoa has high nutritional value and has antioxidant, blood vessel care, and cancer prevention effects, etc. In recent years, Red Quinoa products have been successfully marketed both at home and abroad through the cooperative efforts of the township office, the production and marketing team, and the Red Quinoa Princess of Goodwill. Many tourists must visit the Red Quinoa Story Museum and buy souvenirs. The indigenous mangoes produced in our hometown are among the top producers in the country, with high sweetness and fiber content, making them very tasty. They can also be made into green mango, dried mango, or mango ice, all of which are great! What’s more, all the crops in our hometown are cultivated in a friendly way and are organic and non-toxic.

There are many famous scenic spots in the township, such as Liangshan Waterfall, Shanchuan Glazed Suspension Bridge, and Taiwan Aboriginal Cultural Park. The latest attraction is the “Secret Place of Majia Township – Old Raft Bay”, where the old Raft Bay Tribe’s slate house complex has just been selected by the Asian Travel Association for the “Gold Medal Award in the International Culture and Heritage Sites Category”. Below the Old Raft Bay Tribe is the Ailiao South Stream, which has been protected for three years, allowing tourists to enjoy the fish. Crossing the suspension bridge to the other side of the river is the birthplace of the Paiwan tribe, Badaoyuan, where visitors can take a tour of the Paiwan culture. In order to protect the natural ecology of Old Paiwan, Badaoyuan and the nearby Majia Peach Blossom Garden, the Public Office has just successfully applied to the government for a dedicated road – named “Ping Chuan Wu Sisauma (local language: Homecoming Road)” – from the Linari Tribe to the Old Majia Tribe. This section of the road is controlled, so to access it, you must first apply on the website, and if you are approved, you can take a shuttle bus, with professional guides explaining the route along the way.

The most important celebrations or events of the year in the village are the Harvest Festival and Sports Competition (August), Christmas (December), and the biannual National Red Quinoa Princess Contest (month does not vary). The Harvest Festival is to thank the ancestors for a good harvest every year, and the whole village has to go back to their hometown to participate in the event, just like the Chinese New Year, everyone has to dress up and participate in the event with songs and dances, and foreign guests can also participate in the dance of the thousands of people around the village to have fun together. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus, and since most of the villages are Christian, there is a big celebration with Christmas lights everywhere, which makes for a beautiful night! In order to promote the red quinoa, a specialty of the Marjia village, it is important to find a suitable spokesperson, so every two years a national red quinoa princess contest is held. This is a nationwide event, and women from any ethnic group between the ages of 18 and 28 can apply.

Our hometown is a “city of slow living”, and we emphasize the conservation of natural ecology and a non-toxic, organically grown living environment. Therefore, we have also joined the “Slow City Coalition” in the hope that we can do our part for the Earth and make the world a better place to live.

In recent years, tribal tourism has become an important part of the development of aboriginal industries. The tourism industry combines the culture of the ethnic groups, food, lodging, and the ecological environment of agriculture and forestry into a set of distinctive travel itineraries to attract tourists to enter the tribes.

Majia Township is a beautiful and characteristic township, rich in natural, humanistic and ecological landscapes, including the famous Paiwan origin site – Old Paiwan and Padain Badaoyuan Tribe Stone Slabs Settlement, Salawan Waterfalls, and Beidawu Mountain, Baibin Mountain, and Kasadeng Mountain, which are very famous attractions in the area, with beautiful landscapes and rich natural, humanistic and ecological resources.

At the bottom of the mountain is Sanhe Village, a plains tribe with a history of 70 years of settlement and cultivation, which is the main production area for various agricultural industries in the township, with a rich variety of agricultural products. You can enjoy the beautiful rural scenery, experience the simplicity and beauty of rural life, and taste the high-quality soil mangoes and other miscellaneous fruits and vegetables.

There are also many excellent craftsmen in Majia Village who produce unique handicrafts, including wood carving, bamboo weaving, embroidery, leather carving and so on. Each piece is made with care and attention to detail, so that you can go home with beautiful memories of your visit.

When you come to Majia, you can experience the long history and culture and rich folklore, and learn about the deep cultural heritage of Majia Township and the local customs of the villagers. Each tribe has its own unique culture, history and traditions, which are our treasures and our pride.

We sincerely invite you to come to Makati Township to experience the grace of nature together, and thank you for your concern and support for the Township, the Public Office will continue to provide better services for everyone! We wish you all good health and success in your work!

Food of Majia

Indigenous Mangoes

The area where indigenous mangoes are grown in Majia Township is the largest in the country, with about 300 hectares planted, and the production period is from May to June.

Indigenous mangoes, commonly known as “suāinn”, were introduced to Taiwan in 1562. Ripe indigenous mangoes have a sweet and slightly acidic flavor, and the unripe fruits can be made into green mango, while the ripe fruits can be made into candied fruit. In 2015 and 2024, Majia Township will organize the indigenous mangoes season road race, bike tour and indigenous mangoes evaluation activities, which have successfully promoted the popularity of Majia’s indigenous mangoes, which is another green gem that Majia is proud of.

Cocoa

The cacao beans are grown in the riverbed of the Ailiao River in Dawu Mountain (rocky and sandy soil), and are cultivated and cared for with care and kindness, resulting in a unique taste that is slightly acidic, sweet, and full-bodied. Mr. Du Guoyong from the Meiyuan Tribe in Sanhe Village in this village produces and sells his own “Parase Chocolate Beans”, which won a silver medal in the World Chocolate Competition by Chef AKAME PENG Tien-en, a young man from the tribe, and Mr. Zhuo Li-chang, a young farmer from this village, won the Special Prize of the AVPA Chocolate Competition of France in 2024 with his 80% of dark chocolate.

Coffee

In recent years, our hometown has won three consecutive championships in the Pingtung Fine Coffee Bean Evaluation, as well as the Taiwan Elite Coffee Invitational Competition, and all of the winning coffee gardens are from our hometown, and have been favored by the judges for many years in terms of research and development, production, sales, branding, image, and quality.

Among them, Arashi Cloud Green Sea is jointly operated by the Zhuo family, who have devoted themselves to the cultivation and roasting of coffee and cacao. The company has won several awards in the Pingtung Fine Coffee Awards.
