Chihshang Township in Taitung County is known for its beautiful environment, abundant local produce, and rich cultural and artistic heritage. In recent years, thanks to the joint efforts of various sectors in promoting environmental and cultural-artistic activities, Chihshang has become a well-known branded township in Taiwan.

In 2019, Chihshang joined the Cittaslow Taiwan Alliance and has since actively prepared to reapply for international Cittaslow certification. At the end of 2020, Chihshang took over from Jhutian in Pingtung as the host of the second annual meeting of the Cittaslow Taiwan Alliance. By holding the annual meeting in Chihshang, the township aims to invite member towns from the Cittaslow Taiwan Alliance as well as nearby towns in the East Rift Valley to participate in this grand event. Drawing on successful international Cittaslow models, Chihshang seeks to share experiences in local governance and move toward its vision for economic development.
